saanich inlet residence
saanich inlet retreat
The Saanich Inlet Residence is a full time home on a rocky outcropping on the western shore of the Saanich Peninsula. Building forms follow the topography of the site and floating roofs give way to accommodate existing trees helping to minimize impact in this delicate landscape. The approach to the home brings visitors down a natural draw of exposed native stone and mosses weaving through a native grove of oak and old growth fir trees bent to the marine winds. A central courtyard links public and private spaces and provides an outdoor room shielded from the weather. Heavy concrete roof forms and roughly finished stone walls anchor the project and provide a reference to the rugged landscape.
